BAPN and Nannyjob are proud to announce that we have worked in partnership to produce a Code of Best Practice for Safer Online Recruitment Processes – ‘The Code’, a Self-Regulatory Framework for the online recruitment and sourcing of nannies.
Our companies collaborated to produce The Code, following a number of alarming stories in the Press; work carried out by SAFERjobs, the non-profit, joint industry and law enforcement organisation, and anecdotal reports from nannies, nanny agencies, and parents, about difficult experiences and “scares” when seeking work or looking to find a nanny online, in particular, on social media and nanny chat forums such as those available on Facebook and Instagram.
Job adverts posted on social media platforms are the least trusted by job seekers, a report from SAFERJobs has found.
The poll found that, despite their increasing prevalence, 25% of people thought social media platforms were the least safe method of job searching and they’re right to be concerned. There has been a 300% rise in reports of recruitment related fraud and misconduct, with SAFERjobs receiving around five to ten reports per day.
BAPN and Nannyjob both strongly believe there’s much to be proud of in the “Online Nanny Sector”, many nanny agencies and online specialist nanny websites featuring jobs from both parents and nanny agencies, already operate within their own strict policies and procedures. However, with the increased use of social media platforms and our concerns for the safety of nannies, employers and their families, we believe we have a professional duty of care to offer these ‘Standards’ and hope that interested parties will sign up to operate within The Code and self-regulate, creating a ‘Kite-Mark of Professional Excellence’.
Tricia Pritchard, Managing Director of BAPN said “we’ve been keen to look at this issue for some time and when Nannyjob expressed their shared concerns, the time seemed right to set about producing a Code we could all value and work to. We’re confident The Code will be welcomed and hopeful that nanny agencies and online specialist nanny websites featuring jobs from both parents and nanny agencies will sign up to it.”
Paul Booth, Director of Nannyjob commented “adherence to The Code demonstrates commitment to professional, accountable recruitment/sourcing and will offer peace of mind to all users. Nannyjob is proud to be the first signatory to The Code and hope many will soon follow.”
Nanny agencies and online specialist nanny websites featuring jobs from both parents and nanny agencies can download a copy of The Code via https://bapn.org.uk/free-downloads there’s also a free downloadable banner for signatories to display on their website and social media platforms to demonstrate they’re working within The Code.
